National Organization

Our Post has a number of ongoing events each year. Our members are committed to our community, and help in any way we can.

Pancake Breakfasts are held from October - April from 8:00 am until Noon

Pancakes, eggs, sausage and fellowship are served up by the talented members of Post 425. We appreciate the great turn-out at every breakfast!

January: The Whittemore Betterment Committee has held a Chili Cook-Off on the third Saturday since 1999. Bigger and better every year, the Legion Post #425 members volunteer their time and energy to man the bar, and our entry "Rolling Thunder Chili" has won more than one award!

January: Sponsor the "What the Flag means to me" essay contest for area fifth graders.

March: Seely-Walsh Post #425 has led the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Emmetsburg, Iowa for many years

March or April: Co-Sponsor Children's Easter Egg Hunt with Community Club

May: One of the best attended and most patriotic Memorial Day Programs in the county. We hold services at Rodman and Whittemore, and place flags at three local cemeteries. Our avenue of flags, located near our new Veterans Memorial, is truly a site to see.

May: Following our Program, our Post grills World-Famous "Legion Burgers" at Whittemore Fun Days. We're at the grill both Monday and Tuesday. We also sponsor the sanctioned "Pedal Pull" during Fun Days.

August: Our biggest event of the year, the Chicken BBQ and Sweet Corn Feed is attended by hundreds. The highlight of the day is "Bossie Bingo", which takes place following the meal.
